This is the most common conversion in concrete work because volume calculations produce cubic feet, but ready-mix suppliers sell by the cubic yard.
How much does 1 cubic yard of concrete weigh?
One cubic yard of wet (freshly mixed) concrete weighs approximately 4,050 lbs (about 2 tons). After curing, it weighs roughly 3,900 lbs per cubic yard. Standard concrete density is 150 lbs per cubic foot wet. This weight is important for structural calculations and for determining if your subgrade can support the load.
How do I convert cubic feet to bags of concrete?
Divide your total cubic feet by the yield per bag: 0.60 cubic feet for 80lb bags, or 0.45 cubic feet for 60lb bags. Example: 15 cubic feet ÷ 0.60 = 25 bags of 80lb concrete. Always round up and add 10% for waste — so 25 bags becomes 28 bags to ensure you don't run short.
